Drawn to Taipei’s neon rhythms, surreal contradictions, and quietly pulsing queer scene, photographer Saffron Liberty spent three months in Taiwan developing The Beautiful Strange: Tales from Taiwan’s Rebel Island. Blurring documentary and cinematic fiction, the series follows queer outsiders, youth in transition, and fleeting moments of intimacy through dreamlike scenes gathered during long nights wandering the city. Influenced by East Asian cinema and shaped by found fragments, memory, and atmosphere, the work becomes a visual diary of imagined narratives. A love letter to Taipei, its ghosts, and the beauty found in the everyday strange.
